Work that makes a difference

Who we are

The People’s Project has a goal to make homelessness in Hamilton and Tauranga rare, brief and non-recurring. We want to end homelessness for every person we work with – so people never have to be homeless again. We do this by using the evidence-based Housing First approach.  Housing First is an enduring support for as long as it is needed to help people sustain their tenancies. This includes supporting access to physical or mental health services, seeking employment or mentoring a relationship with a landlord. We do whatever it takes to support people to stay in their homes.

Why you should work with us

Homelessness is a complex issue. It takes a community responding together. In our experience, having the right people around the table makes all the difference.  In our team, no two days are ever the same. It’s a high energy environment where you are supported by your colleagues as we venture together into uncharted waters, driving social innovation and leading systems change. Most importantly, we never give up. We believe everyone must have a home to live in and the right to live their best life.

Since launching in 2014, The People’s Project has been held up as an exemplar of taking collaborative action to successfully address homelessness. If you believe we can work together to end homelessness, come join us.

The People’s Project offers challenging, rewarding work where you can make a visible difference in people’s lives – every day. But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what our team has to say.

Working with individuals and families to experience positive change is a major highlight of my job.  I’m also heartened and inspired by the willingness of our partners, colleagues and other service providers to collaborate and explore new ways of working.”  Kerry Hawkes, Service Manager, Hamilton.
